Dive Insight:
Asam is moving to SAP’s top finance seat having been at Airbus since 2019. Before that, he was CFO of Munich-based Infineon Technologies AG beginning in 2011 and also held roles at Goldman Sachs and Siemens.
“The breadth and depth of his expertise in global finance and technology aligns perfectly to SAP’s strategy and portfolio, as we continue innovating in the cloud to bring sustainability to the center of business,” said Christian Klein, CEO of SAP, regarding the appointment in a statement.
SAP and Asam’s former organization Airbus have a history of almost 20 years working together. Back in 2003, Airbus implemented SAP solutions to expedite production of the world's largest passenger aircraft.
In 2016, SAP announced the aerospace corporation would be using their SAP S/4HANA technology as it replaced the database previously used by the company. In 2020, Airbus Americas announced the use of SAP Concur for a paperless travel and entertainment expenses solution.
“I hope to stay in close touch with Airbus after transitioning to my new role at SAP to further deepen what is already a strong relationship between the two companies,” said Asam in a statement.
SAP declined a request for comment beyond their press release.
