Dive Brief:
-
Global ID verification company Trulioo on Friday named Leigh Ramsden its new CFO, effective November 16.
-
Ramsden brings more than 20 years of finance leadership experience to the Vancouver-based company and succeeds Anne Lawlor, CFO since 2012, who will retire.
-
"Leigh's expertise in building out financial technology infrastructure and optimizing financial performance will help guide us on a continual growth trajectory," Steve Munford, Trulioo president and CEO, said in a statement. In his new role, Ramsden will report to Munford and lead all aspects of Trulioo's finance function, including accounting, FP&A, financial operations, capital planning, tax, treasury, and investor relations.
Dive Insight:
Ramsden will start at the company as it experiences a substantial spike in business. The rise of virtual transactions because of the pandemic has opened the door to more opportunities for fraud, which the company's products aim to combat.
"I think two major building blocks when stepping into a new role of this type in any organization is building personal connections and relationships in the organization, and learning about all the ins and outs of an organization, and how it conducts business," Ramsden told CFO Dive. "You need to learn, and listen, as much as possible. Doing so in our current hybrid working environment is more difficult than in the office."
Ramsden has spent the past 11 years at network security firm Absolute Software. He joined the company as senior finance director in 2009, before becoming VP of finance in 2014, and interim CFO in January.
During his tenure, Ramsden spearheaded the development of Absolute's FP&A function and financial technology infrastructure. He also worked on a recent successful public equity raise for $69 million for Absolute, including a cross-listing on the Nasdaq.
"My prior roles are largely with public companies, so bringing that perspective to Trulioo will help the company mature and enhance its ability to scale through this high growth period, without the added burden of the compliance side, which will be refreshing for me," Ramsden said.
Prior to Absolute, Ramsden managed audits at Deloitte and PricewaterhouseCoopers and held various financial management roles in the technology sector.
"I can't imagine a more exciting time to join Trulioo," Ramsden said in the release. "I'm thrilled to be part of the company's mission to accelerate financial inclusion through verifiable digital identities for the entire global population."
