Dive Brief:
- Visa has partnered with fintech Taulia to integrate the card network’s digital payments technology into Taulia’s virtual cards offering, Visa said Tuesday. Taulia is part of German software giant SAP, which acquired the fintech in 2022.
- The collaboration between the companies is meant to help CFOs, procurement officials and accounts payable professionals automate payments to their supplier ties and reduce the time needed to build a master data system internally, which traditionally takes weeks or months, according to Visa’s release.
- As part of the integration, Visa’s APIs will allow virtual payment credentials, acceptance and enablement tools to be embedded within SAP’s business applications.
Dive Insight:
Through its partnership with Taulia, Visa aims to provide businesses with an improved payment experience for buyers and suppliers, the card network said. Taulia processes about $500 billion annually and has major firms such as Nissan, Airbus and AstraZeneca in its roster of clients, according Visa’s release.
“By partnering with SAP/Taulia, we create synergies in working capital management and the enablement of a world class (enterprise resource planning) provider,” Visa Senior Vice President Alan Koenigsberg said in the statement. “We believe that we are creating a best-in-class payments automation experience for buyers and suppliers alike, while removing cumbersome processes that take time away from the most strategic work that drives growth.” Koenigsberg is global head of large and middle market segments as well as working capital solutions at Visa.
Meanwhile, other payment firms, including Fiserv and Marqeta, are jumping on the embedded finance trend. Last October, Fiserv began pitching its card-issuing, acquiring and digital banking capabilities to financial institutions, payment facilitators and software platforms, making those available through a set of APIs.
In January 2023, Marqeta CEO Simon Khalaf said the company plans to offer more embedded services to drive revenue growth for its corporate customers. Later that year, Marqeta added Giftbit, Whistle and Vivian to its roster of embedded finance clients. At that time, Marqeta’s Chief Revenue Officer Todd Pollak said Marqeta would create more payment services using embedded finance.
